JN-AR - Student Fees, Fines and Charges

Code: JN-AR

Adopted: 4/14/86; 8/14/07

Orig. Code(s): R745

Student Fees, Fines and Charges

Students and their parents or guardians shall be notified at the beginning of each year that grades and diplomas may be withheld for non-payment of fees, fines or damage assessments. This shall be done through a student handbook, a parent newsletter, or other communication that reaches every student and their parent or guardian.

If, after a hearing at the building level, the parent or guardian contests the decision that monies are owed the district, said parent or guardian may request a hearing at the district level under the conditions stated JG - Student Discipline (Appeals Procedure). When a hearing is conducted at the district level, the principal of the school attended by the student named shall present evidence supporting the district’s claim to the District Hearings Officer. The decision of the hearings officer may be appealed to the Board under its appeals procedures.

When the money owed the district is paid, the diploma and/or grade reports shall be made available to the student and parent or guardian within a reasonable length of time.

An up-to-date list of all money owed the district shall be kept in each building and sent to the deputy clerk each summer in case students want to pay during the summer months.

Building principals may designate other certified personnel to act in their behalf.
