Student Athlete Drug Testing
The Board believes that the use of controlled substances poses a serious threat to individuals as well as to the athletic program. Because of this concern the administration is directed to develop rules and procedures to establish a mandatory drug testing program for Madras High School athletes to commence with the 1997-98 school year.
This policy is intended to create a safe school environment by:
1. Providing for the health and safety of all student athletes;
2. Undermining the effects of peer pressure by providing a legitimate reason for athletes to refuse illegal drugs; and
3. Encouraging athletes who use drugs to participate in treatment programs.
No district employee shall knowingly sell, market or distribute steroid or performance enhancing substances to kindergarten through grade 12 students with whom the employee has contact as part of the employee’s district duties; or knowingly endorse or suggest the use of such drugs.
