Admission of Exchange Students
The district will accept a maximum of four full-time students from other nations. These spots are allocated on a first come first serve basis per building principal approval. Programs without a local parent support group will not normally be allowed.
Exchange programs and students must be screened and approved by the building principal.
Enrollment of a foreign exchange student is tuition-free. No other organizations/individual family placements will be allowed tuition waivers.
Admission of exchange students new to the U.S. will be made only at the beginning of the school year (full-time only). All enrollment procedures/arrangements for admission in the fall must be made prior to August 25. No full-time placements will be made after school begins.
Exchange students must agree to abide by all district and school policies and procedures.
At the time of admission, the exchange student must be at least 16 years old but no older than 19 years of age.
Foreign exchange students must be eligible under OSAA and MHS rules to participate in interscholastic competition.
Foreign exchange students participating in commencement exercises will not be eligible to receive a standard Madras High School diploma, but may receive an honorary, "token" diploma.
If possible, the recognized placement organizations should avoid the placement of more than one student from anyone nation at the same time.
Exchange students are encouraged to assist in some manner with the curriculum of the classes which they are attending, i.e., assist with language and history classes.
