The district and building media program shall be a combination of resources, consisting of people, materials, machines, facilities and educational environments as well as purposes and processes, unified under a district coordinator. The school media program stresses direct services to students and teachers, media collections development and instructional design that fulfills the educational goals of the school and community. Each building media center shall be organized according to the specific and varied needs of the building and the individuals and programs which the center serves. The library media program shall meet or surpass minimum state standards.
The Board recognizes the need for media equipment that is compatible with the needs of the students and teachers as described in the Instructional Selection Policy. The selection of media equipment is a process in which the skills and knowledge of several educational and technical speciality
areas must be applied. Included are those contributed by classroom teachers, students, administrators, media specialists and electronic technicians. In order to assure that usable, durable, safe and cost effective equipment is acquired, the Board assigns to the Library Media Specialist the responsibility for coordinating the equipment selection process for each school.
