Prior to showing a feature film/video in a school, the instructor must seek the written approval of the principal. At least five days prior to the showing, the instructor shall submit to the principal (in writing) the following information on the particular film:
1. Title and brief description;
2. Purpose for the showing;
3. Match with course objectives;
4. Proposed date of showing;
5. When and how parents will be notified, or if necessary grant consent;
6. Audience rating (G, PG, PG-13 or R).
General notification of films will be provided to parents. Any parent objecting to their child watching films should contact the principal.
Additionally, for feature films/videos with a PG-13 or R rating, prior parental consent will be required before a student views the film. Edited or unrated films/videos or R rated films/videos will be shown at the discretion of the building administrator.
Instructors are required to preview all film media before showing to students.
Films/videos rated G, PG, PG-13 or R may be shown as part of the school program. A parent may have the opportunity to preview a film when practicably possible and that parent must give prior consent before his/her student may view a film rated PG, PG-13 or R.
Parental notification for the showing of G movies at the secondary level will be at the discretion of the building administrator.
