Class Size Guidelines

 

Elementary (K-6)

Exceeding the following class sizes shall be cause for administrative review:

Grades K-2 – 25 students

Grades 3-6 – 30 students

Additionally, the administration will review any regular class which falls below 15 students.

Grades 7-12

The class size in grades 7 through 12 will be guided by the standards adopted by the Commission on Schools, Northwest Association of Schools and Colleges, Policies and Standards for Accreditation of High Schools, Junior High/Middle Schools, Special Purpose Schools.

When any regular course enrollment falls below 15 students, it will be cause for administrative review.

Special Classes

In determining class size guidelines for special education classes and programs, the administration is directed to consider the following factors:

1. The needs and disabilities of the students; and

2. The requirements of the individualized curriculum and instructional methods based on the I.E.P.

Administrative Review

Administrative review denotes a process whereby the administration will consider factors such as availability of funds, needs of students, curriculum requirement, instructional methodology, and availability of space before making a decision.
