Class Size

The Board recognizes the requirement to establish class sizes in accordance with OAR 581-022-1630 at all grade levels and in all instructional areas, and directs the administration to develop guidelines to meet this need. The Board recognizes that class size has a bearing on possible student achievement, the facilities used, and the financial cost to the district. The Board also recognizes, that in establishing the sizes of various classes, the guidelines must be based on the financial ability of the district. In determining class size guidelines, the administration is directed to consider the following factors:

1. The needs of the students;

2. The requirements of the curriculum and instructional method;

3. The expected learning outcomes of a particular class.

The Board in establishing this policy and directing the development of class size guidelines intends to establish a framework with no intention of fixing rigid limits. The Board reserves at all times the right to reduce or exceed class size guidelines when judged according to available space and financial ability.
