IGBC-AR - Parent Involvement in Title I

Parent Involvement in Title I

 

To be in compliance with the requirements of Title I of the Improving America's Schools Act (IASA) and the No Child Left Behind Act, the district adopts the following rules and procedures. It is required that:

1. Title I programs be planned and implemented in consultation with parents of the students to be served.

2. A meeting of Title I parents be convened each year to which all parents of Title I participating students in Schoolwide and Targeted Assistance Programs are invited for the purpose of reviewing and updating the parental involvement policy and encouraging parent participation in the school improvement process. Opportunities shall be provided for parents to have regular meetings at flexible meeting times to formulate parental input if they desire. Meetings will be conducted in an understandable format and, to the extent practical, in a language the parents can understand

3. Title I staff shall train and assist parents to build their capacity to improve their children's learning in the home, in the school, in fostering linkages to Head Start and Even Start and in the writing Parent Compacts.

4. Parents of Title I students will have the opportunity to participate in parent-teacher conferences with Title I staff.

5. Parents of Title I students shall be provided with reports of their students' progress, school's performance profile, the school's proficiency level, and the school's Adequate Yearly

Progress as well as information describing the curriculum and assessment procedures used for improving school performance.

6. Title I personnel shall be readily accessible to parents and shall encourage parents to observe Title I activities.

7. Title I staff will provide parents of participating students with timely information about the

program.

8. Teachers and other staff involved in programs under this chapter shall be trained to

effectively work with parents of participating students.

9. Title I participating parents will be involved in the annual building evaluation of the effectiveness of this parental involvement policy to improve the academic quality of the Title I school and to identify barriers to parental involvement..

10. Parents of participating students will receive a copy of this policy annually.

11. The district shall, to the extent possible, provide full opportunities for participation of all parents including those with limited English proficiency, and/or disabilities, those with homeless students and parents of migratory students. Information and school reports will be provided in a format and language which parents understand.

12. Title I-A funds may be used for transportation to meetings, child care during meetings, and home visits.

Proper documentation regarding the above requirements will be maintained and these policies will be made available to parents of students participating in the Title I program.
