District Councils
Curriculum Council
The orderly development of curriculum in grades K-12 requires:
1. Planning based on goals;
2. Development based on Board of Directors adoption; and,
3. Evaluation based on administrative leadership.
Tasks
The curriculum council tasks may include:
1. Ordering the curriculum adoption and development process;
2. Reviewing and approving proposed courses at the secondary level;
3. Recommending to the Board curriculum and materials for adoption;
4. Reviewing public or parent complaints about the curriculum with the right to make recommendations for resolution.
The diversity council's purpose is to seek ways to support the district's educational mission by reducing real or perceived barriers to success for all students.
Diversity Council
The thoughtful consideration of issues related to diversity requires:
1. The evaluation of information and data relevant to successfully meeting the educational needs of a multicultural community;
2. Planning based on identified needs; and
3. Administrative leadership to implement steps for improvement.
Tasks
The diversity council should:
1. Periodically review employment data and develop recommendations aimed at hiring a workforce
that is similar to the community in racial and ethnic makeup;
2. Provide a forum for the discussion of issues related to diversity in the schools;
3. Consider issues of equity and suggest improvement in policy and procedures.
