Continuation Coverage Health Benefits

 

The following rules will apply to individuals on approved leaves:

Sabbaticals

Employees on sabbatical leave, may remain on the district's medical insurance plan. The employee will pay all associated costs.

Leaves of Absence

1. Employees who are granted leave for one year or longer may extend their district medical insurance. Such employees shall be notified of their right to continue coverage for 18 months from the effective date of the leave. Employees will pay all associated costs.

2. Prior to the completion of the continuation period described above, employees will be offered an insurance conversion plan per ORS 743.850 through 743.890.

Other Absences

1. Qualified employees who are absent for other reasons, may continue their district insurance for 18 months following the exhaustion of all appropriate, accumulated leaves. However, in no case, shall an employee remain on the district's medical insurance plan for longer than 18 months. The employee will pay all associated costs.

2. Prior to the completion of the continuation period described in 1.3.1, employees will be offered an insurance conversion plan per ORS 743.850 through 743 890 .

Payment Period

1. To facilitate the payment of bills continuation periods shall begin on the first day of the month following either exhaustion of accumulated leave or termination.

2. The extended period for leaves approved for one year or longer shall begin on the first day of the first full month of the leave.

All provisions contained herein are subject to approval by the insurance carrier.
