Drug Free Workplace

 

Employees will receive a copy of Board Policy GBEC - Drug Free Workplace in the faculty handbook or the staff handbook to every employee annually. The policy will also be available to view on the district website.

Principals and/or supervisors will discuss the following topics at an annual staff meeting:

1. The dangers of drug abuse in the workplace;

2. The district policy of, maintaining a drug free workplace;

3. Any available drug counseling, rehabilitation, and employee assistance programs; and

4. The penalties that may be imposed upon employees for drug abuse violations occurring in the workplace.

The superintendent will notify any funding agency as defined under the act within 10 days after receiving notice of a conviction.

1. Within 30 days of receiving notice of a conviction, the superintendent will take appropriate personnel action against the employee up to and including termination; or

2. Will require the convicted employee to participate satisfactorily in a drug abuse assistance or rehabilitation program approved for such purposes, by a federal, state, or local health, law enforcement or other appropriate agencies.

The administration will strive to maintain a drug free workplace through the implementation of the foregoing policy and procedures.

The administration will review this program at least biennially and ensure that the disciplinary sanctions described above are consistently enforced.
