Orientation Procedures
The orientation shall have goals.
1. To develop a successful and productive faculty.
2. To build effective personnel relations.
The orientation activities will vary from year to year according to the needs of new teachers, new facilities and new curriculum programs. The orientation activities shall be substantially completed before the first teaching day.
The superintendent or his/her designee shall conduct at least one orientation meeting for new teachers:
1. To include an explanation of the duties of the superintendent, principals and supervisors;
2. To include an explanation of the superintendent's goals for the school program;
3. To include an explanation of the district organization;
4. To include an explanation of the professional channels from teacher to Board;
5. To include an explanation of the special services provided by the district;
6. To include an explanation of the administrative procedures regarding teachers;
7. To include an explanation of the district expectations of the teaching staff;
8. To include an explanation of the district philosophy of education;
9. To include an explanation of district personnel policies, and to review employee handbooks and Board policies.
Each principal shall conduct at least one orientation meeting for all teachers in his/her building:
1. To include a detailed explanation of the principal’s duties and responsibilities;
2. To include an explanation of the educational philosophy unique to the building
3. To include an explanation of the special services and facilities available to the teachers;
4. To include an explanation of the specific duties, extra-curricular assignments, and expectations of teachers;
5. To include an explanation of the miscellaneous details necessary to insure safety and to provide conducive learning environments.
6. To review faculty and student handbooks, and building safety procedures.
