Safety Program
The principal of each school and other supervisors shall be responsible for maintaining safe and sanitary conditions in facilities under their jurisdiction.
All employees shall maintain safe and sanitary conditions in their teaching or work area of responsibility.
The superintendent shall establish safety and disability committees, advisory to the superintendent, to implement and monitor the district safety and disability program.
Principals shall insure that teachers instruct pupils in their classes in the general rules of health and safety. Sections relative to safety shall be included in faculty and student handbooks.
Principals shall review traffic patterns adjacent to school property and report unusual or immediate safety concerns to appropriate local authorities.
Principals shall institute necessary procedures and safeguards to insure student safety on school grounds.
Principals shall institute necessary procedures to identify and resolve problems related to regulations for the disabled.
Teachers shall instruct students in general safety and accident prevention procedures. Planning for such instruction shall be included in lesson plan books. Instruction shall include basic emergency procedures for each type of classroom and laboratory.
All staff members, certified and classified, will be instructed on the district safety procedures as part of their orientation. At the end of the instruction, all staff will sign off that they have, in fact, had the instruction.
Teachers who regularly handle dangerous chemicals shall have copies of the material safety data sheets on hand at the teacher station for those chemicals that are present in the room(s).
As a condition of employment, each classified employee must read, understand, and sign the district loss prevention form before beginning actual work as per policy GD - Conditions of Employment.
Employees will receive appropriate levels of training, depending on the need of their job position, in procedures to reduce the risk of exposure to bloodborne pathogens. According to their training, employees shall follow all safety guidelines to ensure the protection of all staff members.
