Student School Board Representatives

 

The following rules will apply to student representatives to the Board of Directors:

Selection Process

1. Effective beginning September, 2002, the Jefferson County 509-J School Board shall have a student representative as an advisory member.

2. A student representative shall be selected by the principal prior to the start of his/her junior or senior year.

3. The principal will consider recommendations from the student leadership class and the faculty in selecting the student representative.

4. The term of office is for the current school year and shall be effective September 1 through June 30.

5. If a representative quits for any reason, the principal may be asked to select a replacement to complete the representative's term.

Responsibilities

1. Representative will sit with the Board and be included in all deliberations except those taking place in executive session.

2. Representatives will give opinions and provide input as any regularly elected member of the Board but they will not have voting privileges.

3. Student representatives shall be installed as advisors through the following oath of office:

"I (the student will state their name) will support the Constitution and laws of the United States of America and the state of Oregon and will discharge the duties of Student Representative to the Jefferson County School District 509-J Board to the best of my ability."

4. Representatives or their families will be responsible for transportation to and from meetings.

5. Student representatives are responsible for maintaining their eligibility as required for any other extra curricular activity or office as determined by the principal.

6. Student representatives will receive Board information packets except confidential materials relating to personnel, collective bargaining or legal issues.

7. The Board reserves the right to end the student representative program in the event the members determine it is no longer beneficial to the district.
